Black Watch in Ashanti Campaign, 1874

This painting by Richard Caton-Woodville shows the Black Watch having to deal with the formidable environment let alone their enemy. It also shows an interesting period of experimentation in the British Army when the tried using grey uniforms rather than the famous red uniforms and before the Khaki came into service.
