'The Glorious Conquest of Buenos Ayres by the British Forces, 27th June 1806'

Attempting to kick start revolutions against Spain throughout South America, Sir Home Popham's unexpected invasion got off to a good start but desertion of troops and the fact that he only had a small force to garrison a large settlement meant that they could not fight off a determined counter-attack by Spanish forces. Reinforcements from Britain arrived too late to save General Beresford's small force.
