Fleet Engagement, 1782

As the American Revolutionary Wars raged, the British were attempting to prevent the Spanish and French fleets from uniting before launching an attack on the British stronghold of Jamaica. Rodney was given the task of thwarting the rendezvous as he intercepted the French fleet as it left Guadeloupe. The action seemed to be heading for an indecisive conclusion when the wind changed allowing Rodney's ships to break through De Grasse's line and split the French fleet allowing for ultimate victory. This picture show the point that the French fleet was broken.
