Elizabethan Forays

This map shows that the English were interested in finding routes to the Orient - either a North-West Passage or a North-East Passage. The Portuguese had discovered their route to the Orient through the Indian Ocean and the Spanish had established a longer route via the 'New World'. England attempted to find its own route but with only limited success at first.
