| Colonel David 'Daniel' Jewett was a native of Pennsylvania who was hired by the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata to establish and extend its territorial claims. He claimed the islands of the Falklands on behalf of the United Provinces, although many believe that he was acting on his own authority and for his own benefit. |
