Field Marshal Sir John Colborne
1st Lord Seaton GCB GCNG GCH


Lord Seaton had a long and busy army career, notably as a light infantry soldier. While he was Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada he worked hard to encourage immigration from Britain and instigated much road and bridge building. He founded a college and acted as military commander in the 1837 rebellion.

1808 Sir John Moore promotes him to major and appoints him as his military secretary

1809 Returns to Peninsula as Lieutenant-Colonel
1810 Appointed Commanding Officer 66th Foot
1811 May. Commanded a brigade at Albuera
1812 Commanding Officer of 52nd Foot
1812 Led regiment at Ciudad Rodrigo. Wounded.
1813 -1814 Commanded Light Division at Nivelle, Orthes and Toulouse
1814 ADC to Prince Regent
1815 Led 52nd at Waterloo
1825 Major-General
1826 Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey
1828 Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada
1836 Created Lord Seaton
1843 - 1849 High Commissioner to Ionian Islands
1854 General
1855 - 1860 Commander-in-Chief Ireland
1863 17th April. Died in Torquay
