Henry Ernest Gascoyne Bulwer


Henry Ernest Gascoyne Bulwer was a career colonial administrator and diplomat. He had started his career as British Resident in Kythira in the Ionian Islands before becoming Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire in Constantinople. He then worked in Trinidad and Dominica before becoming Governor of Labuan with Consular General duties in Brunei.

From Labuan, Henry Bulwer was sent to Natal where he played an important part in the forthcoming Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.
