Lord Plumer

This 1926 photograph shows Lord Plumer with the Archbishop of Naples & Latin Patriarch in Jerusalem. Plumer accepted an appointment as High Commissioner to Palestine from August 1925 until July 1928 (including high commissioner for Transjordan in his last year). Despite the intransigence of his opponents they at least paid him the tribute that he seemed to have a way of smoothing things over. Image courtesy of Library of Congress
