Brief History
|
During the Napoleonic Wars, the Royal Navy and East India Company was happy to take control of the colonial possessions of the Dutch who had been subdued by Napoleon. The Spice Islands had been a very profitable part of the Dutch Empire and its remoteness from Europe made it easy pickings for the global reach of Britain. Hence the British took control of the islands from 1801 to 1803 and then again from 1810 and finally handing them back at the end of the war in 1816.
