Henry Fitzhardinge Berkeley Maxse

Fitz Maxse had been present at the Charge of the Light Brigade as one of Cardigan's ADCs. Ironically, he had been the only infantryman in that famous cavalry action. He had been the governor of Heligoland and was very much a Germanophile who was somewaht disappointed to be relocated to Newfoundland. He had only been in post for two years before he died at St John's, Newfoundland, on 10 September 1883.
