Pacific Whaling Map

The whaling industry was a huge business in the 19th century. This map shows the location frequented by whalers. These ships stayed at sea for months on end only coming ashore rarely to take on provisions or offload cargoes. It was whale oil that was particularly prized in an era before petroleum.
