Cecil Rhodes

Cecil Rhodes was a dominant figure in Southern African imperialism. Having made a fortune in Diamonds, he missed out on the opportunities of the Gold Rush due to his attendance at a funeral of his personal secretary whose death affected Cecil Rhodes profoundly. Undeterred, he sought a second chance by under-writing exploration into the interior hoping to find new gold seams or alternative sources of wealth.
