Special Night Squads


This 1938 photograph courtesy of the Government Press Office shows members of Orde Wingate's special night squad training at Kibbutz Ein Harod.

It may have started off as a ragtag formation, but it gave Jews in Palestine much needed self-confidence and a spirit of belonging. It was officially sanctioned unlike the Haganah self defence force set up in the 1920s.
