Sir Walter Raleigh and Trinidad Stamp

Although Raleigh's brief visits to Trinidad were ultimately unsuccessful, his association with the island allowed the British to claim a much longer heritage with the island than it might otherwise have been able to have done so. This stamp commemorates his discovery of Pitch Lake which was the largest known natural deposit of asphalt in the world.
