Kruger and The Thin Red Line

Another Boer war image, this cartoon is trying to convey the awesome power and determination that Britain can call upon when it is absolutely necessary. In many ways bravado of this kind was used as a mask for what was a disastrous and pretty much a pointless war that Britain managed to get itself involved with. Having started poorly, it was hoped that the huge resources of the empire could be employed to successfully defeat Kruger and the Boers. They are trying to convey the idea that the Boers had bitten off more than they could chew, despite the fact that it was actually the Britons who had started the whole mess in the first place.
