The Scared Lion

This is also an image taken from the era of the Boer war. However, it is very clear from this image of the Lion (often used in association with the British Empire), that the imperial dreams are not going according to the plan. This cartoon nicely illustrates this wavering in confidence that the Boer war brought to Britain and her empire. The image of the mighty lion advancing with fear and in trepidation is a perfect analogy to the British and Imperial army flailing about in Southern Africa at this time.
