Unlike today's newspapers, the Times used its front page for advertisements. These are particularly fascinating and give an interesting perspective on the priorities and interests of the era. You certainly get a feel for the imperial nature of the era with widespread advertisements for passages to all sorts of wierd and wonderful destinations; St. Helena, Australia, South Africa, Sierra Leone, India, pretty much anywhere in the Empire that a ship could get to.
