1502 Map Showing New World for First Time

This Portuguese map shows their discoveries to date. It is the first known map to include the Continent of America and marks a radical transformation of European understanding of the World. The map also clearly shows the Papal division designated by the treaty of Tordesillas, dividing the World into spheres of colonial influence between Spain and Portugal.
