EIC Volunteers

This picture shows two colours of the East India Company Volunteers which was effectively the private army of this company. In many ways it looked much like a regular army but it had its own pay, conditions and terms of service. It is interesting that a christian chaplain is consecrating the colours when many of the actual soldiers were likely to be hindus and muslims.
