The Indian Army on the Western Front

The Indian Army supplied huge numbers of soldiers, workers, material and money to help the allied war effort during the First World War. This pictures shows the 129th Baluchis on the outskirts of Wytschaete, Belgium in 1914. Indian soldiers were rushed to the Western Front to help stem the onslaught of the German military juggernaught. The Indian Army also fought in Africa, Salonika and took charge of the Mesopotamian Campaign outright.
