Prime-Minister Herbert Asquith

Herbert Asquith was a Liberal politician who came to power in 1908. He managed to keep the Liberal Party united despite joining the war. However, his lack of understanding of military affairs caused serious problems for the British army. Problems with equipping the volunteer army, over the disastrous Gallipoli campaign and over the lack of shells all led to a loss of confidence in his leadership. Eventually, in 1916, He was replaced by David Lloyd George as Prime Minister.
