Nana Sahib

Nana Sahib was a dispossessed Mahratta adoptee of Baji Rao. For a while the British defenders assumed that he was supporting them until he threw in his lot with the mutineers. He perhaps was unaware of the slaughter of the innocents at the riverside but he was certainly aware of the massacre at the Bibighar. It was assumed, but never proved, that he died on the run from the British in 1861.
