Indian Full Dress Kummerbund Detail

The pattern used to decorate the end of the kummerbund was invariably the motif associated with Paisley. This was called the 'teardrop of Allah' or the 'tadpole' but was based on the Chaldean date palm symbolising the Tree of Life. The design was used for the famous Kashmir shawls made with pashmina wool which bacame popular with the memsahibs and ladies in Britain, to such an extent that manufacturing of Kashmir shawls was taken up in the Scottish town of Paisley from 1808.
