1st Punjab Cavalry

Sikh Daffadar 1893

The daffadar wears a plain blue kurta without red facings, and 3 gold chevrons. The brown leather Sam Browne belt is worn over a red waist sash with a leather pouch on one side and a 3 bar hilted sword on the other. Blue puttees are now worn instead of knee boots, and drab coloured breeches. As with other photos of Sikhs of the 1st Punjab Cavalry, the white pag under his turban is worn at an angle. This is a detail from a group photo of Indian army NCOs in England for the opening of the Imperial Institute.
