Officers and NCOs c1860

This early photo of officers and NCOs shows the heavily embroidered alkalaks of the senior officers and the less well decorated uniforms of the Jemedars. The NCOs have plain kurtas. The kot-daffadar on the far left has 4 chevrons. The plain leather pouchbelts of the NCOs have flask cords, a feature of the 5th Regiment. The seated rissaldars have curved tulwars and most of the men have medals, probably for the Indian Mutiny. The languidly seated British officer is in undress with a patrol jacket and red and gold pill-box cap.
