Field Officer c1884

The sleeve decoration is very clear in this photo. The tunic is dark green with red facings and gold cord plaits, the top plait having a more fancy design on the shoulder where it stops at the olivet button. The Austrian knot on the cuff is well covered with elaborate gold Russia braid. His gold lace pouchbelt has the red and gold flask, or pistol cord running down the middle, attached to the belt with small metal Maltese cross fittings. The dark green helmet has gilt fittings and a spike instead of the green and red falling plume. His sword is of a different design than the usual mameluke in that the cross-bar of the hilt is curved up and down instead of straight across.
