Native officers 1884

These magnificent uniforms were traditional in the Hyderabad contingent. An Ackerman print of 1845 shows a similar uniform. They are wearing alkalaks which are dark green, profusely decorated with gold lace and embroidery. The two seated officers in the middle are field officers and have more embroidery than the others.

The large man at the back, on the left has less embroidery and may be the senior Kot Daffadar (WO). The turbans were strapped on when mounted, as demonstrated by the man standing in the middle. The pouchbelts are of red morocco leather with gold lace and a red silk stripe down the middle. The jack boots are black. This uniform was replaced in 1886 by a simpler kurta.
