Ernest Richard Hope Torin




Cornet in the 3rd Dragoon Guards in 1871, but changed to the 13th five months later (July 22nd). By October he was a Lieutenant but took eight years before reaching Captain in 1879, during which time he served in the East Indies on two tours of duty. He went to Afghanistan for a year in 1880 and back again to the East Indies the following year. Reached Major in 1885 and Lieutenant-Colonel in 1892. He went on retired pay in 1896. During his service with the 13th he found time to become Adjutant for the Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry from 1883 to 1888. He died in 1911.
