Mounted Band c1900

This photo has been published in Regiment magazine dated as c1890 but the officer on the right of the photo has a long ostrich feather plume on his busby that replaced the egret feather plume in 1900. However the regiment were in South Africa from 1899 to 1903, so it seems that the band remained at the depot in England in this period. The drum horse used in Ireland from 1894 to 99 was a piebald called Mick. In 1904 the 14th were presented with a cream coloured drum horse by King Edward VII, so at some time between 1899 and 1904 the regimental drumhorse was the one seen in this photo. The band are in dress uniform and have white pouch belts to carry the sheet music in large white pouches on their backs.
