Bristol Riots

This scene of anarchy and destruction seems to focus on drunkenness as the cause of the trouble. The print was published by a Mr Lane of Clifton. The cavalry are represented by a neat rank of caped figures who move forward in an unthreatening way while the drunken mob wreak havoc and mayhem. The cavalry wear helmets with red plumes which is inaccurate as the 3rd Dragoon Guards, like all the heavy cavalry, had black plumes.
