Ramnuggur 1848

Ackermann published this print, engraved by Harris and drawn by Henry Martens. It was no.10 in a series of Military Battles that took place in the two Sikh Wars. It probably depicts the early part of the battle of Ramnuggur on 22 Nov where the 14th charged in line of squadrons across a shallow stream towards the Sikhs infantry and cavalry who were on a sandy bank in the middle of the river bed. Two officers can be seen but it is not known which one is Lt-Col Havelock. The nearest private is about to thrust his sword at a Sikh armed with sword and shield.
