In the Pyrenees

Denis Dighton painted this fight between the 14th Light Dragoons and French Hussars around 1813. It is one of many of his paintings in the Royal Collection. The background appears to show the Pyrenees where the regiment were posted between August and November 1813. They wear the new style of light dragoon uniform issued in 1812 but it probably did not reach them until later. They were known as the Ragged Brigade at this time so perhaps had not received their new jackets and shakos by that time. The action shown in the painting could be the fight at Arestegui.
