Colonel Daniel Dering

Before dying, Sir Edward Dering named his younger brother Daniel as his successor. Daniel Dering was a captain on a naval vessel at the time but he had several years experience as a soldier. He appointed Samuel Venner to command the regiment on a day to day basis, and it was Venner who took over as Colonel when Daniel died whilst on campaign with the regiment in Ireland at the end of May 1691.
