The Royal Irish Regiment

Colonel Sir John Edgeworth

The painting states the name of the sitter and that he was of Edgeworthstown which is in County Longford. Also that he was governor of Ross Castle which is on Loch Leane near Killarney in County Kerry. His term of office was short, only two months in 1689, because on 30th April he was cashiered following his attempt to cloth the regiment in caste-off clothing.
