The Warwickshire Regiment

Sergeant-Drummer and Bass Drummer c1912

The uniform of the sergeant-drummer (later called a drum-major) was quite plain apart from the gold laced wings on the shoulder. His rank stripes, on the right sleeve only, are hidden by the white gauntlets but were four gold chevrons point upwards with an embroidered gold drum badge. His collar and cuffs have a gold lace edge. The belt of office across his chest is quite ornate, and his staff is topped with silver and a gilt device which looks like the bear with ragged staff.

The bass drummer has a fine leopard-skin apron over his drummers tunic. This tunic is decorated with white lace that has red crowns running the length of it. His shoulder wings are hidden and they have red and white fringes. The blue cuffs are pointed with a white edge just like those on the sleeves of all the other ranks of the regiment.
