Other Ranks’ Shako Plate 1829 - 39

This illustration of a brass badge is based on a very rare relic found in British Guiana (Demerara). The 19th Foot were posted there from 1930 to 1934. It is a large plate, 6.5 ins tall by 5.5 ins wide, covering most of the front of the bell-topped shako. It is made of stamped brass. In 1839 the shako was retained but the badge was changed to the type more associated with the Albert shako introduced in 1844.
