Kingston, Jamaica, 1930s

This 1930s postcard shows how the main street of this tropical island could actually feel decidedly English with all the latest fashions, architecture and consumer products. However, despite the modern feel, the 1930s was a desperately difficult decade for Jamaica with widespread poverty, unemployment and labour unrest.
