Martello Tower, Quebec

The Martello Towers were built from the Napoleonic Wars onwards to help protect the far flung colonies from France at first, but other potential rivals later on. It was about 12 metres in height and could house an officer with 15 to 25 men inside. This tower had obviously been converted into some sort of residence after it had served its strategic purpose.
