The Boers
These were fundamentalist Calvinists who believed that they were god’s chosen people.
- Expected to be ‘tested’ by God
They treated the black population very poorly
- Which brought them in to conflict with British authorities who would use the law to protect even black Africans in the Cape Colony
- They were forced by the British to give up their slaves when slavery was banned throughout the British Empire in 1833.
