The Boers tried to flee British control by leaving the Cape Colony.
Came into contact with Zulus and other tribes and used superior weaponry to carve out a new territory for themselves
- First settled Natal but when British settlers followed they moved in to the interior
- Settled along the Orange River and Transvaal
