The League of Nations took colonies away from Germany and the Ottoman Empire and awarded them to Britain and France as Mandates
- Their empires were now larger than ever!
However, despite the increased size of the empires, Britain and France were little more than paper tigers. They had been fundamentally weakened and were now debtors to the United States
They would be further weakened after the Wall Street Crash
- The Depression would hit colonies particularly hard as they relied on the raw resources whose prices were nose-diving
