The Salt March
Gandhi challenged the British right to tax salt by walking to the coast and collecting his own salt
“Next to air and water, salt is perhaps the greatest necessity of life.”
More and more Indians joined him as he walked to the coast.
This simple gesture made him a champion to poor Indians and once again embarrassed the British authorities.
It was clear that he was offering a serious and credible threat to British rule and was invited to attend the Westminster conference in 1931 with the heads of the other dominions
