• The war ended suddenly due to the Atomic bombs

• It was unclear what the status of conquered countries was going to be.

• The USA seemed to be in favour of decolonisation
• However
• The developing tensions between the USA and USSR did not help
• USSR advanced in to Manchuria and North Korea

• So, for the time being, the old colonial masters returned to their old colonies
