‘Dandruff Syndrome’

• The NHS was the crowning glory of the Labour government and yet it did not fully expect the demand that would be placed on its services.

• As all care was free, people came for more and more obscure or trivial problems.

• Also, the longer people lived, the more care they required!

• 1949 NHS = 4.7% of GDP
• 1990 NHS = 14% of GDP
