Field Marshal Wood

A photo portrait by Alexander Bassano of Field Marshal Sir Evelyn Wood. He was appointed to this rank on 8th April 1903, a year before he retired from the army. The uniform is the full dress scarlet tunic with gold embroidered oak leaves and gold cord shoulder straps that have embroidered badges of crossed batons surrounded by a wreath and a separate crown. He has white breeches and jack boots and a crimson velvet covered baton. His medals and orders have been augmented by a fourth badge which is difficult to identify.
