This illustration of the 10th Hussars crossing Klip Drift by John Charlton was reproduced in Louis Creswicke’s contemporary history, South Africa and the Transvaal War. It is based on a sketch by the war artist Godfrey Giles who had a special interest in the 10th Hussars. The Modder River was in fact very wide so this scene probably depicts the hussars crossing a spruit tributary. |
