Review c1799

The 10th Light Dragoons and 3rd Dragoon Guards took part in a mock battle in the presence of King George III and the Prince of Wales at some point in the late 1890s. The exact date of this review is not known although prints produced by various publishers depict a grand review on Hounslow Heath in August 1799 with the King and Prince prominent. This painting by Sir William Beechey is famous for being the main casualty of the fire at Windsor Castle in 1992. Whereas the prints of the 1799 review show a sedate march-past, this painting depicts the two cavalry regiments charging each other in the background, the 3rd DG on the left and the 10th LD on the right.
