First Life Guards

Helmet, 1815

The Life Guards adopted this classical style helmet in 1812, finally disgarding the tricorn and bicorn hat worn by heavy cavalry up to that date. This is the second pattern and has a distinctive red and black crest or chenille. The white over red plume on the left side was was discontinued when the helmet was redesigned in 1817.
