First Life Guards

Officers, 1890

Norie has painted two officers here, one mounted in full dress but not wearing ceremonial gold kit, and the other, standing, wearing stable dress (see Officer in Stable Dress). The mounted officer sits on a plain black bearskin saddle-cloth with red edge instead of the richly embroidered shabraque (see Mounted Officer 1895). He also wears a white pouch belt instead of a gold one, and if you could see his sword, you would notice that it is suspended on white slings.
