Helmet, 1844 - 1847

This short-lived helmet was influenced by the French heavy cavalry helmet but was unpopular with some critics who claimed that the horsehair tail that fell down the wearer's back would aggravate an injury caused by a bullet pushing horsehair into the wound. A scroll bearing the battle honour PENINSULA can be seen beneath the royal coat of arms on the front.
